Campaigns on record across the GMC Topkick 7500 (2006–2008), from Transport Canada and, tagged NHTSA, the United States. Pick a model year for the Canadian listing, and check your VIN with GMC to confirm which apply.
On certain trucks, the air compressor may not built enough air pressure to support the air brake system. If this condition were to occur while the vehicle is stationary (brake applied), the air brakes would remain applied and prevent the vehicle from moving. Should it occur while the vehicle is in motion, the rear spring parking brakes would engage, slowing the vehicle to a stop, and preventing it from being driven. Correction: Dealers will inspect the air compressor for its ability to build air pressure, and either modify the air compressor by eliminating the suppression valve or replace the air compressor assembly altogether.

On certain trucks, a fuel pump outlet check plug may crack and cause fuel to spray and leak from the fuel pump which may create a fire hazard. Correction: Caterpillar dealers will replace the fuel pump plugs.

On certain trucks, the air brake park control valve may develop either an internal air leak or an air restriction. With this condition, the park brake may not release or may release only partially. If a vehicle is on an uneven surface, the park brake may not hold the vehicle and could result in unintended vehicle movement. An unattended roll away vehicle could strike a bystander and/or cause property damage. Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace the external check valve on the air brake park control valve. If inspection determines the external check valve is damaged, the air brake park control valve will be replaced. Most vehicles will also require the replacement of an internal check valve in the air brake park control valve.

On certain conventional and tilt cab trucks, the air compressor may not build enough air pressure to support the air brake system. If this condition were to occur while the vehicle was stationary (brakes applied) the air brakes would remain applied and prevent the vehicle from moving. If this were to occur while the vehicle was in motion, the dual system air pressure gauges would register the drop in pressure, which could trigger the low air pressure warning buzzer and illuminate the warning indicator lamp. If these warnings are ignored and there is continued loss of pressure, the rear spring brakes would automatically apply, preventing the truck from being driven. Correction: Dealers will replace the air compressor head.

On certain 7500 and 8500 series trucks, the rear drive axle housing was manufactured with steel below the specified thickness, which could result in fatigue failure over time. If failure occurs, the outboard end of the housing could eventually separate, allowing the hub, axle shaft, and/or wheel and brake assembly to separate from the vehicle. This could cause a vehicle crash with injury or death. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the axle assembly.

Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of CMVSS 121 - Emergency Stopping Distance. An internal control and check valve within the air brake application valve assembly was configured improperly, preventing air from flowing through the brake system as designed. In the event of an emergency stop, the vehicle's stopping distance would be increased. Correction: Dealers will replace the air brake application valve assembly on C-Series vehicles and reroute the air brake lines on T-Series vehicles.
